Menopause marks the end of a woman’s menstruation and ovulation cycle and is linked to aging.
It signals other changes in the body that causes lesser production of certain hormones like estrogen and progesterone. During menopause, the stress of the shifting hormones unmasks imbalances that were already growing in the body.
Ayurveda considers aging to be a stage where the Vata dosha rises but menopause may also manifest itself as a rise of the pitta or kapha doshas.
Symptoms of menopause vary but may include depression, anxiety, hot flashes, weight gain, and insomnia. These symptoms are usually due to a buildup of toxins (ama) in the tissues.
The type of ayurvedic treatment depends upon the dosha in which the woman’s menopausal symptoms are manifesting.
